ROORKEE: IIT Roorkee has introduced a new masters course—MTech in Sustainable Energy Engineering—to advance sustainable energy solutions. The programme will be launched in the upcoming academic session at the institute's Centre for Sustainable Energy Engineering (CSEE) with an initial intake of 15 students.
It aims to provide in-depth knowledge on renewable energy technologies, policy, and sustainability strategies. IIT Roorkee claims it is a one-of-a-kind PG programme in India, offering interdisciplinary approach to global energy challenges. Established in 2022, CSEE serves as a hub for cutting-edge research in sustainable energy, focusing on solar, hydro, biofuels, and battery-based technologies. The institute's senate approved the new MTech course in Dec. While CSEE already has PhD researchers, this will be its first postgraduate degree.
Those wanting to apply should be first-class graduates in engineering or those with MSc in Physics, Chemistry, or Biosciences. Admissions will be based on GATE scores. "This was designed to address future challenges in energy sector. It will be taught by both institute experts and external specialists," said Prof KL Yadav, coordinator (promotion) for the MTech programme.
